Guess who's having a baby shower? I'm having a baby shower! I'm not going to lie. I was sad that I would have one but a few of my fantastic co-workers have teamed up and it's happening next Tuesday! Believe it or not, my focus isn't what to wear (it's a work, so I'll be appropriately dressed) or what EB will be given (I have a registry so *hopefully* people will look at it and purchase from it. Okay, maybe that's a little of my focus.) but rather, what do I give these fantastic people who are hosting?
It's a conundrum. That, by the way, is my word of the day. I've used it twice today.
One of the women is easy. She's one of my closest friends at work. I know her and her family. Heck, I have pictures of my fridge that her kids have drawn for me. I got that one, no problem. But the other two...that's a pickle. So who wants to help me figure it out?
One of them was my partner for a year and I miss her so! She was awesome. I never had to hold her hand or check on her. She did everything she had to do and was always so happy about it, even when she was stressed. I know she loves dangly earrings and has fun playing with makeup. I've been searching for the perfect pair of earrings for her and I can't find anything that screams "Lei!" at me. And while I have made a few jewelry pieces in the past I just don't know if I have the time to make something perfect for her and that makes me sad because I want it to be HER, you know?
Like these, I could totally see her wearing these!
Okay, great, now I love those for her. How the heck am I going to get those by next week Tuesday? Genius I tell you. Guess I'm hitting Ward Warehouse this weekend to look for something similar. If I can get there with all of this APEC nonsense/road closures.
Hostess #3, now she is the tough one. See, I met her just a few months ago when she started with the company and we hit it off. I really like her. I get her, you know? And she gets me. We just amuse each other. It's great. But man is she tough. I know bits and pieces about her....some of the foods she likes, drinks, etc but it doesn't seem like enough to get her a gift that means something. I mean really, what can I do, wrap up a tin of biscuits and be "here you go N! Thanks for a great shower!" Yeah, not so much. She's not a makeup girl, nor have I seen lotions and whatnot on her desk (and really, that's a cop-out gift anyway) Ugh, who knew this would be so hard! I wonder if I would offend her if I gave her a gift card to Victoria's Secret?
And exactly when do you give the hostess the gift? How much leeway do you have? A week later? 2 weeks? That day? What?? Oh, the stress of finding something awesome (times 3!) and I still have to Christmas shop. Great, now I'm depressed and I have no ice cream in the house. Hmmm, but I do have have chocolate covered coconut macadamia nuts....okay, time for a snack!

Childbirth Class
I really wish I were posting about my awesome thank you cards, part 2 but silly me, I thought I had emailed myself the pics that I took and then I went and got a new phone only to find out that the pics were still on my old, now inactive phone and I have no way to get those pics so we'll just have to wait on those. I will say this though, I'm pretty happy with how they turned out.
Today I'll post about what we did last night. We had our very first childbirth class! It was class 1 in a series of 5-6, can't remember how many there are. I'm so happy that there were no videos our first night because honestly, I don't know if I would go back. I'd rather not watch the video. I have an idea of how it all works and I won't be asking for a mirror or anything of the sort while I'm trying to get EB out safely so I really, really don't want to watch the video. AND she's going to make us watch 2! Boy, oh boy. I really, really, really don't want to go to those 2 classes.
She did show us some pictures of what's going on in there and was nice enough to let us know that although EB is getting a kick out of kicking my bladder and causing me to instantly stand up to go to the bathroom (really, this has been his favorite thing to do all week.) the best is yet to come. Apparently my bladder will become as flat as a pancake at some point. Yippee. (Can you feel the sarcasm rolling off of that one word?)
The best part of the class though was when our coaches were learning to give us a back massage and DH, who was sitting behind me took that to mean rub my shoulders for a bit then reach around and start to play with his son. Huh, not quite the massage I was hoping for there. But at least he managed to stay up which, let me tell you, was a big concern when we got there. I knew pillows were bad. Can't wait to see what happens next week since we'll be laying side by side. All I know is, if he starts snoring, I'm looking for a new coach....after I sneak out.

Thank you cards - part 1
I have issues. No, seriously, I have issues. I'm supposed to be taking it easy, you know, relaxing until EB gets here and trying to get everything set up but noooo. Not me. You could say I have control issues combined with little patience (yes, I know all of you out there with children are snickering to yourselves thinking about how well that's going to work out for me. I'll get the hang of it, right?) but back to my issues. Those 2 quality traits mean that when I have an idea, I want it done ASAP. Or at least start the research. And if you want something from me, sure as heck you need to have your ducks lined up before coming to me or I'm going to roll right over you and do what I want and by golly, you're going to like it. Yes, I just said "by golly."
What does this mean for now? Well, sadly enough, although this is my first baby, I don't think I'll be having a baby shower unless the people that I work with decide to give me one. See, I live on another island, away from my family and in-laws and unfortunately, cannot fly per my doctor's orders. The unfortunate part is that my sister-in-law was going to throw me a shower...except I can't fly...and there's no other way to get there. *Insert crazed pregnancy hormonal crying here.*
Regardless of the possible no shower, I DO need thank you cards for any gifts the EB may receive. So do I rush out to the nearest Target/Wal-Mart/Longs's to buy standard cards? No. Do I even venture online to find that perfect card? Yes. But no vista print or tiny print or shutterfly card will do. I want it personal. To fit in with that poor sad shower theme that, if I were throwing for myself, would totally come in to play. So off to etsy I go. Please note that if you do not know etsy, do not head over there. Really. You'll be hooked and I will not be held responsible for your addiction.
After endless searching, okay, like 3 days because I had to get my husband's opinion, I found a card that could work. If only it were a different animal....if only it were different sports...if only it wasn't an invitation. See what I mean? Issues. In the end though, thanks to an amazing seller with great customer service, I ended up with the perfect card that fits in perfectly with what we are going for. But the next step? That's putting it all together, including the ridiculous envelope project (once again, because I have issues,) but that's another post. For right now, it's time to get excited because not only am I under 100 days to go (WHAT??) but the Baby Expo is this weekend and I have waiting for this ever since the BFP!

It's now FB official!
This is crazy. I can barely manage my other blog Craving Sugar and here I am starting a 2nd one. What in the world am I thinking?? I SO need to get better at blogging!
Well this morning I made it FB official, if you read between the lines that is. I officially posted on my personal page as well as the Craving Sugar FB that "due to an impending arrival" I will not be accepting any orders needed after Dec. 1. So it's out there...on FB...where I had been hoping not to put it but I had to get something out there because people were asking about cookies for December and I promised to slow down on the cookies. Of course I'm probably lying to myself and to my husband because I really don't see how I can slow down. I've been cookie-ing pretty much all year, even in the throes of morning sickness. Not at the same time, of course. I at least put the bottle of icing down before running to the bathroom.
And now here we are staring the 3rd trimester in the face and I still have cookies to do and only 1 piece of baby furniture purchased. I'm slacking, aren't I? No quite a bad mommy but I'm edging up to the line. On the plus side, we have some clothes. Not to mention a baby gift that arrived in today's mail. At least that's a start.
So what about my intro? I'm a soon-to-be new mommy living in Honolulu with my husband of almost 4 years. Our little guy, EB, is due in January and he already rules the roost, no matter what his daddy says. As a matter of fact, I just bought EB a blanket with a lion on it that says "Lil King" just in case there was any doubt. Not on my part, you understand, but on my husband's.
Truly, I have no idea where I'm going with this blog. It's a place to log my ramblings about being pregnant and trying to figure out work, my baby, and my hobby and how to make it meld.
